Was thinking on Kaito's early mage training under Archmage Alberich and ways that Alby would punish him for failing trials and unweaving of spells. Instead of actually inflicting pain, I imagined he'd leave little curses, his favored being one that turns Kaito into a little imp of sorts for a while to teach him a lesson without actually causing him harm.
